As an automotive technology instructor, you will demonstrate - through hands-on training and classroom instruction - proper technique, including EV technology, and safety procedures which are essential skills of professional automotive technicians. The Automotive Tech Instructor will teach and instruct high school students through class demonstrations, lecture, audio visual aids and hands-on training. The automotive technology instructor will provide instruction in the basic techniques of the automotive industry; including current EV technology; prepare students for immediate entry into the automotive industry or to continue studies at postsecondary institutions; plan, develop, organize and conduct a comprehensive automotive program for secondary students. 

 

Educational and Certification Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree with a valid Arkansas teaching license with applicable level/area endorsement
  2. Minimum of two (2) years teaching experience is preferred
  3. Arkansas Teacher CTE certification

Teaching: 

  1. Coordinate and supervise work-based learning projects within the high school's campus or community-based projects. 
  2. Develop, plan, organize and maintain effective classroom management strategies in alignment with the school’s policies, guidelines and procedures.
  3. Develop, implement and monitor safety policies and procedures for all automotive related activities, equipment and tools used in automotive repair trades; align safety policies and procedures with PBSD policies and procedures. 
  4. Develop effective lesson plans that follow state approved Career Technical Education (CTE) standards and develop and demonstrate industry skills and concepts using frequent hands-on activities, models, teacher prepared instructional aids, supplies, technology, and lab experiences on and off campus.
  5. Utilize a variety of instructional approaches, visual aids and models to demonstrate and teach automotive industry concepts.
  6. Adapt the curriculum, materials and methods to develop sequential assignments that guide, challenge and meet the differentiated needs of the students.
  7. Guide students in making career-related decisions and provide students with instruction on general employment skills including (but not limited to) communication skills, job retention skills and resume writing.
  8. Develop industry partnerships and collaborate with partners regarding program initiatives and training methodologies.
  9. Monitor, grade, and evaluate students’ progress. 
  10. Maintain appropriate student assessments and records and submit timely progress reports and grades.
  11. Attends staff meetings, CTE trainings, and district required trainings as required
  12. Other job duties as assigned by Principal

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Principles, theories, practices, methods and techniques used in curriculum development, lesson planning and classroom automotive instruction. 
  2. Current automotive industry practices and trends related to engine rebuilding, tune up, lubrication, ignition, wheel/tire balancing, alignment, fuel systems, transmission/transaxles, chassis and body, electrical systems, brakes, suspension and steering, axles/drive axles/differentials, engine performance and emissions, air conditioning and heating, and other related automotive applications. 
  3. Must possess the organizational and communication skills necessary to be an effective teacher 
  4. Computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Office applications, email, etc.).
  5. Indication of willingness to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community business/industry partners.
  6. Strong coaching skills and the determination to teach, inspire and lead future trades professionals are essential.
  7. Excellent human relations skills, and ability to serve as a mentor and role model for students.
