Position is responsible for creating a classroom environment that fosters, promotes and develops an understanding of the relationship of healthy body function and exercise; that motivates each student to cultivate physical fitness, and appropriate social and emotional adjustment; that discovers and develop talents of students in physical achievement; and that develops strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individual, dual and team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each student’s ability. 

 

Qualifications:

  1. Three (3) years of satisfactory teaching experience (preferred)
  2. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in pupil related field
  3. Must possess a valid Arkansas Teaching License with required endorsement
  4. Must possess the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  5. Demonstrates the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the public

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, and individual, dual or team sports, utilizing curriculum designated by the district
  2. Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning and implementing a balanced physical education program
  3. Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge and strategies of formal sports, games, and fundamental body movements
  4. Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the basic instructional philosophy and course of ADE standards; provides instruction adaptable to the curriculum needs of each scholar and subgroup of scholars
  5. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly and productive environment in the physical education area
  6. Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure overall safety of students
  7. Communicates with parents, counselors, and principals on scholars progress
  8. Supervises scholars in and out of classroom in relation to activities during the assigned work day
  9. Maintains professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum development meetings, and other professional activities
  10. Creates an effective learning environment through functional activities and practices
  11. Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or assigned designee
