Description

Under the direction of the Special Education Officer, the Physical Therapist is responsible for assessing scholars physical development level, providing appropriate treatment to meet individualized student objectives, identifying architectural barriers, providing recommendations for accessibility, and providing recommendations for program development and student placement from pre-kindergarten (PK) to twelfth (12th) grade.

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited educational institution in Physical Therapy (other requirements per job description.)
  • Must be credentialed by the state of Arkansas
  • Valid Arkansas certificate or license as an Physical Therapist with in compliance with the necessary requirements to meet the position’s essential duties and responsibilities  
  • Must be able to apply basic computer programs (spreadsheet, Microsoft word, Excel, PowerPoint, APSCN, and others) to enhance job performance
  • Knowledge of the schools and PBSD policies and procedures
  • Evidence of strong commitment to quality education

  • Works collaboratively with a students’ Individual Education Plan (IEP) team to create treatment plans, interventions and/or educational materials from the IEP for the purpose of remediating students’ motor skill deficits and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Assesses students' functional capabilities and/or classroom environment for the purpose of determining student's functional level and developing recommendations and/or curriculum
  • Assesses and documents students' gross motor and development skills (e.g. perceptual-motor, motor coordination, sensory development, muscle strength, etc.) for the purpose of determining their deficits and developing recommendations
  • Communicates with students, parents, teachers and/or other personnel for the purpose of evaluating situations, solving problems and/or resolving conflicts enhancing students’ access and mobility in school and in school related activities/functions.
  • Designs and implements physical therapy interventions to support the students’ IEP; included but not limited to training of family and educational personnel to assist in helping student achieve IEP goal
  • Prepares a wide variety of written materials in compliance with State, Federal, and administrative regulations (e.g. quantity reports, student activities, correspondence, internal audits, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
  • Assists student in accessing school environment and benefiting from their educational program
  • Attends specialty courses and workshops, professional conferences, and in-services as time, budget and selection permits
  • Demonstrates good communication and interpersonal skills with faculty, staff, parents, students and community  
  • Functions under policies established by the Pine Bluff School Board and the Arkansas Board of Education
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by employee’s supervisor, the principal, or the superintendent

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, talk, hear, walk, sit, and use fingers, tools or controls.  The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, the ability to adjust focus, and depth perception.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.
