Description

Under the direction of the Special Education Officer, the Occupational Therapist is responsible for assessing and evaluating scholars from pre-kindergarten (PK) to twelfth (12th) grade. The Occupational Therapist will provide quality, school-based occupational therapy services, which includes but are not limited to assessment/evaluation, intervention/treatment, treatment planning and implementation, dismissal planning, related documentation, and communication between co-workers, professionals (medical and non-medical), and families. Services may be provided through direct and/or consultative approaches.

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited educational institution in Occupational Therapy (other requirements per job description.)
  • Must be credentialed by the state of Arkansas
  • Valid Arkansas certificate or license as an Occupational Therapist with CPR/First Aid certification for compliance with the necessary requirements to meet the position’s essential duties and responsibilities  
  • Must be able to apply basic computer programs (spreadsheet, Microsoft word, Excel, PowerPoint, APSCN, and others) to enhance job performance
  • Knowledge of the schools and PBSD policies and procedures

  • Conducts, with parent permission, an evaluation of fine motor, visual perceptual/motor, self-help, coordination and sensory integrative skills
  • Conducts informal classroom observations with verbal recommendations regarding possible occupational therapy evaluation and treatment
  • Provides written assessment report based on evaluations
  • Assists in the development and implementation of an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for each student receiving occupational therapy services
  • Attends pertinent special education meetings
  • Performs reevaluations of those students receiving occupational therapy services
  • Provides direct therapy on an individual or small group basis and consultation services, as specified in the IEP
  • Establishes and coordinates occupational therapy schedule with other therapists and teachers, allowing flexibility for classroom structure plus travel, consultation, planning and evaluation time
  • Maintains therapy notes on all Medicaid eligible students receiving occupational therapy
  • Provides consultation to teachers and parents for suggestions, carryover and use of adaptive equipment
  • Attends specialty courses and workshops, professional conferences, and in-services as time, budget and selection permits
  • Demonstrates good communication and interpersonal skills with faculty, staff, parents, students and community  
  • Functions under policies established by the Pine Bluff School Board
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by employee’s supervisor, the principal, or the superintendent

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, talk, hear, walk, sit, and use fingers, tools or controls.  The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, the ability to adjust focus, and depth perception.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.
