Description

The Head Girls Basketball Coach/teacher is responsible for planning and administering all aspects of the Girls Basketball Program. They will instruct secondary high school athletes in the fundamental skills, strategies, and training necessary for students to experience a high degree of success both on and off the basketball court. The coach must understand and abide by all building level rules/regulations, Pine Bluff School District rules/regulations, and the Interscholastic Activities Association policies, regulations, procedures, and guidelines. Duties will include, but are not limited to game-play management, game practice, game planning, inventory control, etc. 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required (master’s degree preferred)
  • A valid Arkansas Teaching Certification with Arkansas coaching endorsement and an English, mathematics, science, or social studies endorsement
  • A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years coaching experience at the high school level
  • Ability to follow direction, plan, organize , and implement a total program for girls basketball at a high school level
  • Knowledge of effective coaching practices/techniques for governing basketball
  • Ability to exercise fairness and good judgment in dealing with student athletes.
  • Ability to maintain poise and composure during practice and games.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and correctly both orally and in writing.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, or team sports, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities; teaches either English, math, science, or social studies
  • Demonstrates accurate, up-to-date knowledge of content in all areas of certifications
  • Implements designated curriculum for courses being taught and coached
  • Supervises assistant coaches and student athletes to promote effective student learning through participation in athletic activities
  • Works cooperatively with other coaches in planning a balanced sports program
  • Maintains a healthy learning environment for the students in classroom
  • Maintains a professional demeanor in dealing with parents and students.
  • Attends and participates in faculty meetings and other assigned meetings and activities according to school policy
  • Keeps students and parents informed regarding eligibility, requirements, and special rules for the participation in the sports program
  • Teaches basic fundamental skills of the sport; prepares daily practice activities and keeps records on file; emphasizes and promotes good sportsmanship in the conduct of team members and coaches; abides by regulations in the district Coaches’ Handbook
  • Maintains required inventory records
  • Selects and requisitions uniforms, equipment, and instructional aids
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal and supervisor

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, talk, hear, walk, sit, and use fingers, tools or controls.  The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, the ability to adjust focus, and depth perception.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.
