Description

The Dyslexia Interventionist will provide dyslexia prevention to students with characteristics of dyslexia. They will be responsible for evaluating students for dyslexia and conducting 504 meetings for these students. They will also work with general education teachers to ensure appropriate accommodations are met for students serviced by 504. 

 

Qualifications:

  • Must possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
  • Must possess a valid Arkansas teaching license 
  • Knowledge of Reading Instructional Strategies; knowledge of dyslexia, 504 committee process, and Individual Academic Plan (IAP) goal setting process and implementation
  • Trained in RISE Academy K-2 or 3-6 (or completion of training by Aug. 1, 2020)
  • Must complete all required training dates associated with PBSD Dyslexia Program Take Flight
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction including teaching reading

 

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with students, parents and other members of staff to ensure program implementation
  • Implements the District adopted Dyslexia Program Take Flight with fidelity
  • Plans and uses appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the adopted program
  • Works cooperatively with classroom teachers to accommodate regular curricula as needed and assist dyslexic students in regular classes with assignments  
  • Participates in 504 Committee meetings on a regular basis 
  • Maintains school Dyslexia screening data to include inputting digital data
  • Uses technology in teaching/learning process
  • Conducts ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing
  • Assumes responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.  Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal
  • Be a positive role model for students; support mission of school district 
  • Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students
  • Manages student behavior and administers discipline  
  • Consults with classroom teachers regarding management of student behavior according to IAP 
  • Assists in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials
  • Establishes and maintains open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers 
  • Maintains a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members 
  • Uses effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly 
  • Participates in staff development activities to improve job related skills
  • Participates in Collaborative Teaming
  • Remains informed of and complies with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies for special education teachers
  • Assists with School, State and National assessments
  • Compiles, maintains, and files all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required
  • Attends and participates in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned 
  • Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee
